Ruth Chris Steak House Dropped The Ball and Michigan Fans Picked It Up

The brains behind the Ruth Chris Steak House campaign that would run alongside the University of Michigan/Rutgers College Football game this past Saturday, probably thought they had a REALLY brilliant idea when they came with the idea of giving fans on their Facebook page, a certain % discount based on how many points Michigan beat Rutgers by (i.e. Michigan wins by 20 points, customer would get 20% off their entire bill) – sounds great right?

Yes, awesome, that is until Michigan completely BLOWS OUT Rutgers to the tune of 78 whopping points.

OOPS! Yes, someone probably got fired, and for good reason. Any team can win on any given day in any sport.

Ruth Chris quickly update the Facebook to read the oh so important disclosure they left out, “Up to 50% Off” (minor detail folks) – they came that was on the original post, but those leaving comments would different. WTF is Pokémon GO?! How Small Businesses Can Win New Customers

So you’ve seen it on the news, read something about it online, but you’re still at a loss for WTF Pokémon GO is all about?!

Wikipedia defines the game as:

Pokémon Go (stylized as Pokémon GO) is a free-to-play location-based augmented reality mobile game developed byNiantic and published by The Pokémon Company. It was released in July 2016 for iOS and Android devices.

The game allows players to capture, battle, and train virtual creatures, called Pokémon, who appear on device screens as though in the real world. It makes use of GPS and the camera of compatible devices. The game is free-to-play, although it supports in-app purchases of additional gameplay items. An optional companion Bluetooth wearable device, the Pokémon GoPlus, is planned for future release and will alert users when Pokémon are nearby.

Now, in all fairness, the main concern I have with this is the fact that the game is GPS based, that means giving up your location to whomever, whenever you’re playing the game. I’m sure there’s a simple solution to make sure your GPS location is unidentifiable when you’re not playing the game, otherwise you’d constantly be offering up your GPS location, and let’s face it, this day is age one must not throw caution to the wind with letting strangers know where you’re at.

Why DJ Khaled’s Snapchat is WINNING : 3 Things You Can Learn

Have you heard about “THEY”? If not, then you’re probably not following DJ Khaled on Snapchat.

I’m not sure if Khaled has made Snapchat more famous or if Snapchat has made Khaled not only relevant again, but to a brand new demographic. Who are they? KIDS! Ages 7-14 are HYPER-CONNECTED, specifically on Snapchat.

But are they the only demographic on the Snap? Absolutely not, Snapchat chat is quickly gaining popularity with a wide variety in it’s current demographic. Large brand have engaged Snapchat to create large, custom Snapchat Story campaigns for them to tell their story in quick, Snaps and snipits of the story they are telling.

DJ Khaled has started his own revolution on Snapchat by creating his own “Keys to Success” and sharing them with his followers. He works every angle of his day into communicating with his audience. It’s starts in the morning with him waking up and taking his elevator downstairs to the kitchen in which he encourages his followers to “Walk with Me”, “let’s see” as he enters the kitchen and shouts to his personal Chef, “Chef Dee, what’s for breakfast”

 

The struggle of the hustle is no secret in the Khaled’s Snaps, he reminds followers that the hustle is real and that “THEY” don’t want you to succeed. He also constantly reminds his followers that “everything is going to work” etc as a means of encouragement.

In addition to DJ Khaled dominating Snapchat, he’s also crushing the retail space at http://WeTheBestStore.com where we sells a variety of shirts, sandals referred to as “Slides”. sweatshirts that read “WE THE BEST” and several other “Khaledims”

As if things weren’t already obvious that Khladen is in fact “on one” he recently signed with Jay-Z’s record label ‘Roc Nation‘ making Jay, DJ Khaled’s manager.

So here are 3 things you can learn from DJ Khaled’s use of Snapchat:

  1. People want a sneak peek behind the current. Snapchat provides an easy and authentic way to do that.
  2. You can leverage the following you built on Snapchat, to sell your products and/or services.
  3. Snapchat is yet another opportunity to build your own Media Empire, that your brand controls.

Why Gary Vaynerchuk Is The Most Humble Guy In The Game

Now that I’ve got your attention, allow me let me elaborate.

Last week while tuning into one of Gary Vaynerchuk’s Facebook LIVE streams, someone posed the question, “Gary, are you ever humble about anything?” to which I replied, “Gary is the most humble dude I know.” Gary thanked me as candidly said “Sebastian you may want to shed some light on that as I’m not sure everyone would agree.

So that is exactly what I’m going to do…

I’ve known Gary for 6 years. Every time I see him I get the same thing: a vibrant smile that can light up any room and a genuine feeling as though he really gives a shit about what I’m discussing with him. That’s probably because he does.

Let me set the stage and take you back 6 years, to where the story began…

It was 2010. Just 2 years before, I lost everything as a result of the 2008 recession (like most). I had an acquaintance call me one day, out of the blue, and DEMAND that I Google a guy named “Gary Vaynerchuk” and read his book ‘Crush It‘ immediately. He felt that Gary and I had similar personalities. Not sure why. (insert sarcasm here)

That was very thoughtful of him; I told him didn’t have a dollar to my name, and he replied, “here’s my Amazon Kindle log-in info, download the audiobook, it’s way better because Gary reads it and goes off script at times.”

In that very moment something inside lit up and I said  “YOU HAVE TO READ THIS (LISTEN TO THIS) right away!”, That’s just what I did.

Every morning I’d wake up, go out for a run (that always turned into a walk) and listen to Gary V spit business, branding and social media game in my ear with the very enthusiasm we share.

Within a few days of reading (listening) to the book, the business antennas went up on my head and SocialBuzzTV.com was born.

I quickly reached out to Gary via email and Twitter to introduce myself and get on his radar. I consider him a “Remote Mentor” in life. He ALWAYS responds to my emails, which says a lot for the schedule he manages.

Fast forward a year and a half and Gary was working on his second book, “The Thank You Economy”. I caught wind he’d be making a book tour stop in Miami. Naturally, I reached out to his team to set up an interview. They responded a few days later, that Gary would, in fact, be available for an interview.

But wait! It gets better! Having been in business for a little over a year, we had limited resources, video peeps included. The phone rang the day after I confirmed the interview; it was my now=good friend and videographer extraordinaire, Jude Charles. He said “hey we just shot Russell Simmons’ book signing. We’ve seen your stuff and we’d love to collaborate with you”, I immediately thought to myself, “No flippin’ way is this happening!” I quickly asked if they were busy the following Tuesday (they were not) and agreed to shoot the interview with Gary.

Two weeks ago I had the opportunity to share the stage, once again, with Gary at DigitalMarketer.com‘s Traffic & Conversions Summit in San Diego! As always, Gary was 100% Gary, always willing to chat it up, ask how I was, he was down to shoot a piece and take a few pics.

When I see people like this, it reminds me they have not forgotten where they came from, and it humbles me and reminds me to constantly do the same, no matter how famous I become. (YOU HEAR ME UNIVERSE?!)

This was an impromptu piece that we shot in the greenroom at T&C 2016 in San Diego before Gary took the stage. Of course, it’s always a good time when Ryan Deiss shows up…

By now you’re probably wondering where I’m in the world I’m headed with this post.

Here it is: The very fact that a guy of Gary’s caliber gave 3 fucks about a guy just starting out, shows a ALOT about his character and the person he is. I quickly learned that Gary is a people person, he talks about it all the time and that is because it’s true, authentic and real.

If you don’t know Gary (and you’ve only ever seen his keynote talks or Social Media videos,) then yes, you probably have an initial feeling of “this guy is an arrogant dick and needs some manners.”

But that’s far from reality.

Gary knows when to turn it on and when to turn it off. When it comes to business, he’s relentless and always willing to tell you the truth (whether you want to hear it or not). But when you get to know Gary and spend a few minutes with him, you see and feel the transparency and authenticity in which he conducts himself.

He’s a guy you want to be around, he’s the guy you want at your event, he’s someone you want in your tribe and I couldn’t be more privileged to know that he’s in mine.

Keep doing what you do Gary, people are watching, lives are being changed and your message is making a difference!

Snapchat has been valued at $16 billion. Should I continue?

Teenagers and 20 something’s (I think they call them ‘Millennials’) however Snapchat’s user interface isn’t the easiest to understand or embrace.

How To Use Social Media Marketing in 2015

Have you ever heard yourself say that? You probably have, and more than once. Social Media althought 10 years old (almost 11) is still very, well, NEW!

But it’s no mystery that…

It’s 2015 and as my friend Gary Vaynerchuk says, “Social Media is overthrowing goverments in the Middle East, do you REALLY think it’s not affecting YOUR business?!”

I think that about sums up my argument, but I insist on continuning the conversation via this blog post.

In 2013 I decided that I would no longer entertain conversations with skeptics and those not yet believers that social media is in fact here to stay, and I’m glad that I did and conttinue to, because the digital train hasn’t slowed down a bit.

Why spend time on skeptics when there are believers that “get it” or at least want to get it. That is the demographic I choose to gravitate towards as my “ideal client”

Whether you’re reading this and you’re still a skeptic or a believer in Social Media, these tips should help you better understand what you don’t know that you don’t know.

Social Media Marketing in 3 Easy Steps:

1) ESTABLISH YOUR STORY – Sit down a map out the story of your brand. How have you always told the story of your brand? How have you and do you continue to get the word out?

Create a content strategy around that with photos, videos, blog posts and 3rd party content that pertains to your brand or it at least compliments it.

Make it your own. Afterall all your brand’s story is YOURS!

2) FIND A HOME – Decide which platform is going to resonate best with your audience. Remember, you can’t be everything to everyone. If your community engages the most with you Facebook, then create a strategy around how you can best engage with that audience, while continuing to grow the network.

If you’re focused on Facebook, then make sure you’re spending money on Facebook Ads to promote your posts. You don’t have to spend a lot, sometimes $10 can give you some solid exposure, but make sure you’re spending SOMETHING, as Facebook for Business pages is now a “pay to play” game.

Quick #BUZZTip: For video, use YouTube AND Facebook (they’re competing against each other and you want to be in that mix)

3) PULL, don’t PUSH! (No one wants to be sold)

It’s called “SOCIAL Media’ not “SELFISH Media’

There is SOOOO much NOISE happening via Social Media these days.

I think most would agree that in 2015, NO ONE wants to be sold. People thrive on peer reccomendations to make a buying decisions in addition to chosing to do business with those that they know, like and trust.

The most effective way for your brand to get their message our to to TELL YOUR STORY! Do that by using short videos (that can be shot on your smartphone these days)
